A section of Jubilee Party Members of Parliament have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to fire National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.
Led by Patrick Munene (Chuka Igamba Ng’ombe) and Eric Muchangi (Runyenjes), the MPs want Rotich shown the exit door over what they termed as “presiding over poor monetary policies.”
The leaders further claim that the country’s debt has reached unprecedented levels under CS Rotich’s watch. They also accuse the Minister of leading the country to an ‘economic crisis’ that has seen increased tax introduced on fuel and petroleum products.
The MPs have threatened to launch an impeachment motion against the CS if he doesn’t resign over incompetence or if President Kenyatta doesn’t sack him.
“Before Parliament went on recess, there was a bill to impeach Mr Rotich. He has been inefficient. As a leader, he knows that he has failed and he should step down,” MP Munene said.
“If you look at the monetary policies he is bringing, you will see that the Treasury is being led by people whose loyalty lies with the International Monetary Fund.” he added.
