President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to meet three leaders of world’s super powers including United States, United Kingdom and China in a span of two weeks.
The Head of State will first travel to the US and hold talks with President Donald Trump at the White House on August 26th. Kenyatta was invited to the US by Trump and talks between them are expected to focus on trade and security.
Four days later on August 30th, President Kenyatta will host British Prime Minister Theresa May in Nairobi to discuss issues touching on trade, security and fight against corruption.
Later, Kenyatta will travel to Beijing for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation between September 1st and 5th, where he will hold discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“In the space of just two weeks, we will have hosted the Big 3 — US, Britain and China — and this goes to show our standing in the community of nations,” Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma told the press on Wednesday.
While making the announcement CS Juma termed the purposes of the meetings as avenues of “positioning Kenya globally.”
“The balance of trade between Kenya and the UK is in our favour, and we want to see ways to enhance that going forward,” Dr Juma said about May’s visit to Kenya.
About 168,000 British nationals visited the country last year, translating to more than a third of the half a million European tourists who toured the country in 2017. There are also more than 100 British companies in Kenya employing hundreds of Kenyans.
President Uhuru’s visit to the US was announced by the White House in a statement about two weeks ago.
“Kenya is a vital partner of the United States, and President Trump looks forward to discussing ways to broaden the strategic partnership based on our shared democratic values and mutual interests”.
“The meeting between the two leaders will reaffirm the long-standing relationship between the US and Kenya as a cornerstone of peace and stability in Africa and the broader Indo-Pacific region,” the statement said.

Kenya looks like a sweet 16 ready for rape as far as Drumph is concerned. San Francisco based Bechtel Inc has for some time now tried to armtwist the Kenya government to take in more debt ($3.5B) even as the country chokes from debt in order to finance the building of the Nairobi – Mombasa motorway. GoK has dilly dallied but watch this space – Bechtel could as well be the one behind UK’s visit to the White House so that he can be read the riot act by his host. If I were him, I’d travel there na macho kondoa
