President Uhuru Kenyatta has ended his two-week stay in Mombasa to avoid what he termed as “speculation.”
Speaking during the launch of the 10th African confederation of principals conference in Nyali, Mombasa county on Tuesday, Uhuru told the heads of schools that he’s returning to Nairobi to end speculations.
“I would have loved to stay longer and listen to a few presentations, but I have to go back to Nairobi.”
“I have been in Mombasa for two weeks and there has been too much speculation on why I am here, so wacha nirudi Nairobi ndio wawache mambo ya speculation,” the head of state said amid laughter from the audience.
There has been reports on a section of local press claiming that the President was at the coast to reconstitute the Cabinet.
The Standard reported that the Head of State held a secret meeting with Opposition leader Raila Odinga at the coast last week. The paper said the two were working on a plan that would see at least four Cabinet Secretaries whose dockets have been linked to corruption fired.
In a media briefing on Monday, State House spokesperson Kanze Dena said her office was not aware of the alleged looming Cabinet changes.
“That is news to me; I am unaware of any plans by the President to reshuffle the Cabinet. If you could give me more information regarding the speculations, I would appreciate. My office has no information about those plans,” said Ms Dena.
