President Kenyatta, Joho Bury the Hatchet in Secret Meeting

President Uhuru Kenyatta has closed ranks with Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho in yet another indication of changing political landscape in the country.

The two bitter political rivals buried their differences after a closed door meeting held at State House, Mombasa on Monday.

State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena said the President discussed different matters including Kibarani dumpsite standoff with the Mombasa Governor.

President Kenyatta also agreed to Joho’s request for a regeneration project in the coastal city.

Their meeting appears to be inspired by the famous March 9th handshake between President Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.

The Monday meeting between Kenyatta and Joho was also attended by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala and his Environment counterpart Keriako Tobiko.

Joho, Balala and Tobiko addressed a press briefing in Mombasa after the meeting, where the Governor heaped praise on President Kenyatta’s unity pact with Odinga.

“I told Najib (Balala) that for the last four years, I was not sure whether I am a governor or just a layman because I did not enjoy being a governor. Now I am already feeling that we are able to make a difference and enjoy our offices,” Joho said of his newfound partnership with the President.
