President Kenyatta Names Matilda Sakwa as New NYS Director-General

President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Machakos County Commissioner Matilda Sakwa as the new National Youth Service (NYS) Director-General.

Matilda will take over the helm of the youth agency from Richard Ndubai, who is facing graft related charges over alleged loss of Sh9 billion at the institution.

NYS allegedly lost the billions in underhand dealings that saw a number of companies paid millions without having supplied anything.

Speaking to the Star, Matilda said she has what it takes to clean up the mess at the National Youth Service and return the institution to its former glory.

“Just keep off! Let’s do good business with honest contractors with a view to achieving the goals of NYS. It’s a challenging position, all eyes are on me but I trust that I’m equal to the task. My experience and hard work has been rewarded and I will not betray this trust,” she said.

“I will be going to NYS with a clear mind, work with the team to bring back the lost glory of NYS. The institution’s focus should be on young men and women we are nurturing,” Sakwa added.

Sakwa is currently pursuing a PhD and holds a Master’s degree in development studies from the International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University Rotterdam in Netherlands.

She also holds a postgraduate diploma in HIV/Aids from East Anglia University in the United Kingdom and another diploma in government reforms from Beijing, China.

She previously served as a district officer in Kangundo before being appointed the Machakos County Commissioner.
