I'm Ready for a By-Election, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua Says

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua says he is ready to face his fierce rival Wavinya Ndeti in a by-election should the Supreme Court fail to uphold his victory.

Mutua’s election was quashed by the Appeals Court on June 8th after an appeal by Ndeti, but the Governor moved to the Supreme Court seeking to have the ruling struck out.

Speaking during a talk show on Radio Citizen, the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader said he’s not afraid of locking horns with Wavinya and exuded confidence that he will trounce her in case of a repeat poll.

“I am ready for a repeat election if the Supreme Court does not reinstate me as Machakos governor. I am not only ready, but I am ready to win the seat like I did in 2017,” said Mutua.

“I am not afraid of election. In fact we will go there and beat them. I only dislike politics of war. I want to urge Machakos voters to be steadfast and avoid being used in enhancing politics centred on individual interests rather than development,” he added.

Mutua further alleged that some powerful politicians opposed to his development agenda and rise in politics were using Wavinya to fight him.

“There are people who dislike the development projects I have overseen in Machakos and also afraid of my future political ambition. They are the same people who are using Wavinya through court cases to bring me down but they have lost in on that one,” Mutua claimed.
