Kikuyu Community has No Preferred Candidate for 2022 Presidential Election, Elders Say

A section of Kikuyu Council Elders have announced that the community has no preferred presidential candidate for 2022 elections. 

The elders say the community will listen and negotiate with all candidates offering themselves for the country’s top seat and chose who to support based in the deal offered. 

“We shall not rely on any politician to negotiate on our behalf, because most of them will be after their own personal interests,” Kikuyu Council of Elders chairman, Nyeri chapter, David Muthoga said.

Muthoga dismissed politicians pledging that the community’s will support Deputy President William Ruto in 2022, noting that the community has not sent anyone to negotiate with the Deputy President on its behalf.

“We must have a negotiation and an arrangement of what we want in 2022 and enter into an agreement before supporting anyone,” he said during an Elders’ meeting in Nyeri.

“We have no issues with anybody. Ruto is a good person and very supportive to our President and we love him. He is one of the candidates we expect to negotiate with during the electioneering period.” 

Majority of elected leaders from Central Kenya region have already pledged support for Ruto’s 2022 state house bid, citing deal reached between President Kenyatta and his deputy in 2013.

The elders further called on politicians to stop endless politicking and focus on development.
