All government procurement and accounting officials are set to undergo lie detector tests in crackdown on corruption, President Kenyatta has said.
Speaking during the 55th Madaraka Day Celebrations held in Kinoru Stadium in Meru on Friday, the Head of State said the fresh vetting exercise will be held in the next one month, and those found guilty will be sent packing.
“All heads of procurement and accounts in government ministries, departments, agencies and parastatals will undergo fresh vetting including polygraph testing to determine their integrity and suitability,” said Kenyatta.
“Those who shall fail vetting, will stand suspended. I expect this exercise to be concluded before the start of the new financial year 2018/2019,” he said.
President Kenyatta further moved to assure Kenyans that they will see more from his administration in the war against graft.
“In the coming days, you will hear of other tougher actions that will be taken by my government. We must have an honest country to protect our liberty and be able to use it to build a glittering African nation,” he said.
“We know of teachers who impregnate students. Preachers who swindle their flocks. Lawyers who defraud clients. Architects building houses using shortcuts leading to collapse of such buildings. Doctors giving false diagnoses to increase their fees.”
“Pharmacies selling fake medicine. Journalists who blackmail people. Unfortunately, these crooks have become heroes. Too often, some of the worst rogues are welcomed back home like conquering celebrities,” Uhuru said during the Madaraka Day celebrations held in Meru on Friday.
Lie detectors are not…
Lie detectors are not reliable. What Ndugu Mutua suggested is much better. He suggested that all government employees, members of parliament be subjected to a lifestyle audit.
Lie detector tests can be…
Lie detector tests can be used along with the audits to detect a trend but can not be used alone. Govenor Mutua was right on lifestyle audit and he should start with himself and his MCAs.Better yet, lifestyle audits should be public record for EVERY Kenyan. Those in dispora holding dual citizenship should also have their earnings (in Kenya) recorded for all Kenyans to see ;), now how about that kinda transparency?
Those in diaspora holding…
Those in diaspora holding dual citizenship should also have their earnings (in Kenya) recorded for all Kenyans to see ;), now how about that kinda transparency?. This people are not holding government offices, they are private citizens who happen to be dual citizens, therefore subjecting them to this is a form of discrimination, unless every Kenyan had to have their earnings recorded for all to see.
Absolutely, all Kenyans…
Absolutely, all Kenyans would have all their earnings recorded for all to see. If your neighbour suddenly upgrades his/her car to a huge gas guzzler on a clerks or a school principal salary, then that would raise a red flag.Raising money for a silly cause for the already wealthy individuals would likely raise eye brows in the village. This would fight corruption and the poor would not be taken advantage of.
@ Imara you are correct.In…
@ Imara you are correct. In fact thats a.misnomer.Man has not yet invented a machine that can detect alier or a lie. There is no machine yet that can read someone’s mind.So called lie detectors have been known to be manipulated by people who can control their anxiety and nervousness…etc. For a small fee some so called experts can teach how to pass a lie detector.
What we need is good in corrupted police work.
Audit! Audit! Audit!
Audit! Audit! Audit!
