Opposition leader Raila Odinga says that the famous March 9th handshake between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta is facing threats from selfish politicians and perpetrators of historical injustices.
Speaking when he delivered a lecture at Cambridge University in London on Tuesday, Odinga said the unity pact risks collapsing after individuals behind historical injustices teamed up to sabotage the deal.
Raila however stated that President Kenyatta and himself will put efforts that will ensure that the unity initiative becomes a success.
“It is our hope that the handshake could inspire other African nations struggling with problems similar to those of Kenya,” he said.
He maintained that the Building the Bridges Initiative has nothing to do with 2022 succession politics. “We agreed that we have to make these changes if we are to have a nation. We are not in any way deluded that these changes will come easy,” he said.
“There will be opposition and resistance because the issues we want to tackle go to the core of how Kenya has been run over the past five decades.”
“We came to the conclusion that our diversity appeared destined to be a curse to ourselves today and to our children tomorrow, unless we confront them,” he said.
Raila left the country on Sunday for a week-long visit to the United Kingdom.
Kenya is not owned Raila and…
Kenya is not owned Raila and Uhuru. What is there for me in their so-called handshake?I just wonder why Uhuru chose to bribe this PRIME MURDERER,Raila shs 25 billion belonging to Kenyans instead of taking him to court to face the slaughter of 1300 Kenyans in 07/08 PEV violence.ONLY THE FIRING SQUAD will save Kenya.
Raila, the curse you are…
Raila, the curse you are talking about is the curse that has been bestowed to Kenya by the madness of the rivalry between the Kenyatta and the Odinga families since Independence. Moi family also joined in. Now that Kenya is about to leave this madness behind you have found a new twist to try and prolong the curse. If not, why has the handshake details not been disclosed to all Kenyans. Why is it taking this long. Kenya’s resources belong to all Kenyans. Disclose the Handshake details in point form and let citizenry decide. If it is being sabotaged, it’s because where there is smoke there is fire. No one is ready to trust you both. By errors of commission and /or omission , you both brought Kenya to the blink of civil war. Kenya needs new leadership and new thinking. More than 50 years, three families thinking on behalf of more than fourty million people is a long time. It’s time for change, come 2022 and change it will be !!
There is talk that KRA…
There is talk that KRA pounced on Raila’s doorstep along with other higher ups and that kinda streamlined a few things leading to a handshake. Shows you how many are paying taxes after all.
