Police have arrested East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Simon Mbugua in connection to last week’s attack on Nairobi Central Business District Association (NCBDA) chairman Timothy Muriuki by goons.
Mbugua was arrested on Tuesday in Nairobi and is currently being held at Central Police Station.
Police said that the MP hired the goons to interrup Muriuki’s media briefing at a city hotel on Monday last week. The goons were were captured in a video shoving, kicking and threatening him.
Efforts by Muriuki to escape were futile as the rowdy gang pursued him and forced him to sit in muddy water on the road as the beat him.
Police had since placed a Sh500,000 bounty on each of the five suspects recorded on camera attacking Muriuki.
Three suspects namely; Anthony Otieno Aboo alias Jamal, Solomon Benjamin Onyango alias Solo, and Stephen Sangira have been arrested while two others identified as Brian Owino alias Orange, Michael Mbanya, and Suleiman Hussein alias Rescue are still at large.
