Opposition leader Raila Odinga could be handed a top State job following the handshake with President Kenyatta, an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) senator says.
Speaking during an interview Mayienga FM on Thursday, Kisumu senator Fred Outa hinted at plans by President Uhuru to reward Odinga with a plum State position.
Outa argued that it would be difficult for the former Prime Minister to traverse the country preaching reconciliation without holding a specific government office.
“I support the handshake and I can assure you that something is cooking,” Outa said.
“The handshake will ensure the ugly incidents where our youths were killed after elections are stopped,” he added.
The senator noted that the effects of the handshake are already being felt in areas like Kisumu, saying that businesses are now booming after being hit by events of last year’s acrimonious elections.
He called on Opposition supporters to rally behind Raila as he embarks on a plan to unite the country in collaboration with President Kenyatta.
The two have already named a 14-member team to steer the unity initiative. The team is under the leadership of lawyer Paul Mwangi and Ambassador Martin Kimani.

Raila can be praised yes, but actions speak louder than words. He, Raila has taken Kenyans for a ride for too long. Uhuru had the Gikuyu votes when he was running for President, but Gikuyu voters are very independent voters. Not too long ago we had four Gikuyu’s running for President, while in Nyanza for more than fourty years there has been only one candidate. We must not forget Uhuru lost while vying for member of Parliament in Gatundu, his home. He will not be able to make Gikuyu follow him blindly like sheep. When 2022 comes, the Mwananchi will decide based on performance. Uhuru forgot his promises, now he is riding on Raila’s bandwagon which has been going nowhere for the last more than fourty years. Raila’s bandwagon has a trail of destruction, dead people, damaged families and careers. He, Raila, has now gone back to the drawing board. He even introduced 40 verses one.
