President Kenyatta has once again heaped praises on Opposition leader Raila Odinga for agreeing to work with him in reconciling Kenyans following following last year’s acrimonious presidential elections.
While delivering his State of the Nation address before a joint Parliamentary sitting on Wednesday, the head of state hailed the former Prime Minister’s move to agree to work with him in uniting Kenyans, terming it as an act of statesmanship.
“I am not the only leader that felt the need to restore unity, Raila Odinga did so too. Let me praise the statesmanship he showed,” Uhuru said.
“Neither peace nor unity are given. We must work for it. I believe last year (2017) taught us that if we do not put an end to unrestrained political competition, then it will put an end to Kenya,” he added.
The President declared that never again, will Kenyans lose their lives or property because of politics.
“I want to be clear; never again should a Kenyan life be lost for the sake of politics. All of us have to admit that last year we failed Kenyans. We must make amends,” he said.
Uhuru also sought forgiveness from Kenyans for any hurtful remarks he uttered during campaigns for 2017 polls.
“I am sorry for anything that I said last year that may have hurt or wounded you. If I damaged the unity of this country in any way. I ask you to forgive me and to join me in repairing that harm.”
He added: “Let us each apologize for our words, anger and malice. From Mandera to Maseno, from Mbita to Mvita, from Lodwar to Lunga Lunga and embrace our neighbours.”
Apart from a few “old fat…
Apart from a few “old fat cats” appointed to look into this hand shake thing nobody knows how these two intend to avoid future blood shed and turmoil in the country. Any legislation in the works still remains to be seen since Duale with his big dry mouth has been busy campaigning for 2022. We can only assume one decided to share with the other in the “eating”.
