A traffic police officer spotted commanding traffic in a flooded road and whose photo went viral on the social media has been lauded for the rare commitment.
In a statement, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet commended the officer who was captured on camera controlling traffic on a flooded section of the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
In the photo, the Police Constable identified as Abdi Galgalo of Sultan Hamud Police Station is seen emersed knee-deep into the water while controlling the traffic.
In a tweet posted on the National Police Service official Twitter handle, IG Boinnet described Abdi’s actions as ones that “exemplifies the selfless service rendered by many officers to Kenyans each day.”
“IG @JBoinnet commends Police Constable Abdi Galgalo of Sultan Hamud Police Station captured by a motorist while directing traffic on a flooded section of the Nairobi/Mombasa highway. His action exemplifies the selfless service rendered by many officers to Kenyans each day,” NPS tweeted.
The tweet attracted a myriad of reactions from Kenyan online users. Captain Collins Wanderi, a Twitter user expressed interest in awarding the officer.
“I feel obliged to reward Constable Abdi Galgalo in my own way having used that section of the road sometimes last year. Would appreciate if you shared his contacts via inbox. Thank you,” Wanderi wrote as a response to the tweet by the National Police Service.
