Deputy President William Ruto was on Friday forced to intervene after rowdy youths heckled Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.
Waiguru was shouted down during Ruto’s tour to the county, where he commissioned the construction of two roads. The Governor accompanied the Deputy President during the launch of 100km Gakoigo-Njegas stretch in Kerugoya.
However, when Ruto began addressing residents, youths chanting “Waiguru must go” briefly interrupted his speech, forcing him to intervene and calm down the group.
“We agreed to have a unified nation not what we hear coming from Kirinyaga. We do not want to hear fracas and insults coming from this county,” DP Ruto said.
Ruto was also flanked by Women Representative Wangui Ngirici (Kirinyaga) and her Murang’a counterpart Sabina Chege, Senator Charles Kibiru among other Mt Kenya leaders.
“All Kirinyaga leaders are members of Jubilee. We should not be fighting, rather we should focus on delivering to the people what we promised them. It is time to work and not play politics,” DP Ruto remarked.
Ruto called on local politicians opposed to the incumbent Governor to respect her and wait for the next general elections in 2022.
“Every political seat is taken and everybody should respect that. Wait until 2022 and the people will decide whether the current leaders will have delivered or not,” he said.
