Miguna Miguna JKIA Drama Could Jeopardize Nonstop Flights to the US, Matiang'i Says

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has expressed fears that last week’s deportation drama involving self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general Miguna Miguna could have negative repercussions on Kenya.

The Interior CS stated that the direct flights to the United States plan by Kenya Airways could be at risk over last week’s events at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Matiang’i disclosed that JKIA is being reviewed by international agencies over its security level, and admitted that several security lapses, including instances where journalists entered and filmed a secure zone could cost JKIA the status one category it recently acquired.

Kenya Airways announced it will fly its maiden nonstop flight to New York this October. This came after several years of lobbying by the Transport and Foreign Affairs Ministries. KQ began selling tickets from January 11th, for the inaugural direct flight to the US.

Matiang’i was speaking when he appeared before Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Administration on Tuesday, where he was summoned to explain Miguna’s last week deportation.

  1. I hope it does. You don’t do…
I hope it does. You don’t do stuff in such a stupid moronic manner! He is Kenyan whether you like it or not! Dumbasses!!!!! This is just a silly excuse, I have seen close to the same with people in the states being bundled out of oversold flights, mostly not unprofessional police personnel trying to deport a citizen whose ideas they are scared of. Whether they like it or not that is part of democracy, don’t expect people to always agree with you!!!!!!!

    • I don’t know whether you…
I don’t know whether you watch fox news but the professionally trained law enforcement at airports across the world do not take unlawful citizens in airports causing chaos lightly. No one tased Miguna in Kenya or stop him from taking selfies . Let your so called citizen try that stunt in JFK or Dulles or better yet you, if you are a US citizen, try that nonsense and you will be in jail and no fly list in a split second and those selfies would not make it anywhere close to social media…………

      • You are failing to realize…
You are failing to realize that the international bodies and governments are basing their stand on the illegality of the initial deportation of Miguna x2. Kenya’s government broke the law and rudely went against the courts’ rulings by illegally taking his passport, illegally abducting him and deporting him without due process as per the constitution of Kenya/laws. Kenyan government did not abide by international airport rules. You can’t tranquilize a human being and force a foreign airline to transport him/her! What if he had died on the plane? This was an extreme case regardless of who the victim was. Today it’s Miguna, tomorrow it’s going to affect some of us.

        • @XG, burying your head in…
@XG, burying your head in the sand does not change anything. Miguna had an Invalid Kenya pp and the Id he was showing in JKIA is invalid also. He got his pp illegally that makes it invalid. The judge cannot make invalid pp valid. A judge cannot give a foreigner a Kenyan pp. He must follow the right procedure it regain his citizenship & get a valid Kenya id & pp. Anything else kelele tupu. His supporters do not want to hear that but that is truth.

    • My friend you sound so…
My friend you sound so ignorant about citizenship. Do you know how many Kenyan have dual citizenship? No one says miguna is not Kenyan by birthday but onces you become a citizen of another country you are required by law to apply for dual citizenship. We do that all the time. We never caused any drama. Help Miguna grow up!

  2. The price will be costly…
The price will be costly..social media is powerfull whatever you do in public dormain..you need professional for damage control..

  3. The Kenya government may…
The Kenya government may have caused unnecessary drama on this issue but many will be surprised that the law is on GoK’s side. See, before 2010, Kenya didn’t have a provision for dual citizenship & all those who had taken citizenship elsewhere were deemed to have forfeited their Kenyan one. However, upon the promulgation of the new constitution, one could still regain Kenyan citizenship by simply applying again – go to Immigration, Nyayo Hse & JUST DO IT! Even with the new constitution, everyone who takes up another country’s citizenship is required by law to declare although not doing so doesn’t deprive one his or her Kenyan citizenship. As a law professional, Miguna Miguna knows all these requirements but he’s decided to cause drama unnecessarily. I may be wrong but given his prior announcements about the illegality of the Jubilee government, his may be an expression of disrespect for government which can be very consequential as has been the case. FACT is that, technically, he is NOT a Kenyan & as such, cannot enjoy the privilege of even being listened to in a court of law unless GoK gives a nod. Fact that he had a Kenyan passport during all this time is neither here nor there. These facts might be hard for many to swallow but they comprise the truth. Some have called Matiang’i & company lords of impunity but they are very wrong. Mambo bado (btwn, I am no Jubilee supporter & I’d rather Uhuru & Raila get out of Kenya’s political landscape like yesterday; they are two incompetents who are definitely not in a position to right ship that is Kenya)
