Miguna Miguna's Family Speaks after their Son is Deported for the Second Time

Self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general Miguna Miguna’s family says it fears for the life of their son after reports that he was injected with an unknown substance before being kicked out of the country.

Speaking on Thursday, Miguna’s older brother Erick Ondiek asked the international community to intervene and help end the impasse between the controversial lawyer and the State.

“We are devastated. We cannot sleep or eat. We are being treated like second-class citizens. We don’t know what will happen next. We are preparing ourselves for the worst,” said Mr Ondiek after chairing a family meeting at the homestead near Ahero town.

The family said that news reaching them indicated that Miguna was critically ill in Dubai after being tranquilized with an unknown chemical at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Wednesday night.

“We are following bulletins on radio, television and social media for every development, and we fear that all the legal avenues of dealing with our brother have been disregarded by the Government,” said Ondiek.

The former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant is the seventh and youngest child of Joshua Miguna and Margret Sure – both deceased.

He further accused Opposition leader Raila Odinga and National Super Alliance (Nasa) of doing little to save Miguna.

“Miguna’s problems started when he swore in Raila as the People’s President,” Ondiek said.

“During the time Miguna has been in trouble, I have never heard any of our local representatives in NASA talk about him. Even our local MP hasn’t spoken and we don’t know why they are quiet. So that is why I am saying he was betrayed,” he said.

“I hear the Minister for Interior still insisting Miguna is a foreigner. I don’t know how they use their English. Why should Miguna be called a foreigner, somebody born in Kenya, in Kano, Ahero, went to Apondo Primary School, Onjiko Secondary and proceeded to the University of Nairobi University? If they think he doesn’t belong here, then it means all of us, the Miguna family, also don’t belong here,” Ondiek said.

Odieki further dismissed the unity pact reached between Odinga and President Kenyatta, stating that it is meaningless if it can’t rescue Miguna, who risked to administer an oath on the ODM leader.

“If the handshake meant anything good, then what is happening to my brother should not have happened. I don’t think it (the handshake) meant good for us or for Kenyans. Everybody is asking abut the handshake. Miguna never welcomed the handshake. He said it never meant good for Kenyans but for two people.”

  1. Erick Ondiek tell your…
Erick Ondiek tell your brother to behave. Your brother is a bully who does not want to produce any travel documents in JKIA. Yes your brother was born in Kano, kenya but he became a Canadian citizen in 1998. That means he is a foreigner.

  2. Tell your brother that…
Tell your brother that everyone including the Presidents of all countries when they use a foreign passport, they’re required to pay for a visa entry. No one disputes his nationality. I see you as Miguna’s brother, you also don’t understand why he wasn’t allowed here and instead you are all over blaming everyone but your brother and his arrogance and lack of wisdom.
