United States ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec, who is set to be replaced by Senator Kyle McCarter, has said that serving Kenyans was his greatest privilege because he helped develop a special partnership with his country.
In a statement to the Media on Thursday, the envoy said he will continue with his duties until the US Senate approves Kyle’s nomination as his successor.
“One of the greatest privileges of my life has been to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to Kenya and to help deepen the special relationship between the two countries,” he said.
Godec termed his 5-year term as successful, adding that he is confident that the progress in healthcare, security, governance among others, achieved during his tenure will continue. He was named Washington envoy to Kenya in 2012 by former President Barack Obama.
“Kenya holds a special place in my heart. I offer a warm Asanteni Sana to the Kenyan Government, Kenyan people and my embassy colleagues,” he added.
Kyle’s nomination by US President Trump was announced in statement by the White House through its website. Trump cited Kyle’s long history of charity ties with Kenya as the reason why he settled in him.
The statement by White House said that McCarter would be “ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the United States of American to the Republic of Kenya.”
The release also noted that McCarter “served as a field auditor, missionary and international director of Each One Feed One International, based in Lebanon, Illinois, with an office in Mukothima, (Tharaka-Nithi County)”.
Taking to Twitter after the news, the Senator welcomed the nomination, stating he that he is ready to take up the task.
“Hono (u)r to be asked to represent Pres Trump & USA in country I have lived & served,” he said.
“Look forward to closer relationship benefiting both our nations. Left legacy of hono(u)ring God, serving others & saving lives of children in Kenya.”
