A standoff ensued between Immigration officers and self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general Miguna Miguna moments after he landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Monday afternoon.
Miguna, who was deported to Canada on February 6th, has been denied entry into the country, with Immigration authorities at the airport demanding he applies for a Visa.
Miguna’s lawyer Cliff Ombeta said the officials wanted him to surrender his Canadian passport, but he refused, causing a standoff. “They want him to take a temporary visa so that he becomes stateless when it expires. We have advised him not to sign the papers. They are now consulting their seniors,” Mr Ombeta told journalists at the airport.
“The despots have denied me entry! They are insisting that I must enter as a foreigner on a visa. I will not and cannot agree. My advocates appear either too weak or compromised,” Dr Miguna said.
Reports indicate that the Immigration officials are treating the former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant as a Canadian citizen after his Kenyan passport was cancelled before he was banished to Canada. They want him to apply for a 6-month tourist Visa to allow him stay in the country. However, Miguna refused to apply for a visa, prompting the officers to bar him from exiting the airport clearance area.
The flight carrying the firebrand lawyer landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 2.30pm.
Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) officials led by its chairperson Kagwiria Mbogori and his lawyers Nelson Havi and Ombeta are currently pushing for his clearance.
Poor Miguna….he appears…
Poor Miguna….he appears oblivious the train has left the station whilst he was gone (Odinga)! I am watching this drama unfold…..very hilarious, even by Kenyan standards!

KENYA NEW ALLIANCE:
There is room for us all. The Kenya Government is embarrassing Kenyans by harassing a son of Kenya when returning back home.
During the colonial days, you could easily move to any of the East African countries, and always welcomed back home without any conditions whatsoever. In addition, you could travel freely without being asked to show your ID.
Before independence, we had common East African currency which embraced the nations of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanganyika (Tanzania). It is sad to say that, we are worse off now than we were before independence.
Miguna Miguna is coming back home and his re-entry should be facilitated without any conditions from the robots working for the Kenya Government. These robots killed about 400 people during the election last year. Robot Kihalangwa na Matiang’i, please don’t embarrass us with your outdated “colonial myopic and arrogant mentality.”

I am in Kenya a few times a year and see many many diasporan Kenyans applying for a visa for the simple reason that they acquired a foreign citizenship. Here is somebody advocating and planning violence with the option of leaving if things get too hot. Why should he be treated differently???

If Miguna Miguna does not…
If Miguna Miguna does not have a valid Kenya Passport, then he cannot be allowed into the country unless he applies for a tourist visa. As a lawyer, he should know this; and even regular citizens who do not understand the law knows that entry into any country from a foreign land required a valid passport. No exceptions and no exemptions.

if he is a dual zitizen, he should enter kenya with a kenyan passport, and if he doesn’t then he has to apply for the visa or go back to canada, this is how it works, however Miguna just want to start drama. Kenya is moving on so he can be left behind while chilling in canada.
ID is not a travel document…
ID is not a travel document except within EA and EU. That is the problem he is facing and should have known that. He claims to be very smart . He may be Kenyan but he was illegally keeping Kenyan nationality during the times Kenya did allow duo citizenship and he refused to reapply . IBI
