Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has insisted that he is still in the race to succeed President Kenyatta during 2022 general elections.
Speaking when he attended a burial at Kathangari, Embu County, the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader said that he will contest for the Presidency on a platform of rapid development.
Mutua pointed out that his decision to throw weight behind President Uhuru’s candidature during last year’s presidential contest was informed by his desire for “continuity for programs that he had initiated, specifically, the Standard Gauge Railway.”
The outspoken Governor said that it was unfortunate that a great percentage of the country’s revenue in last year was spent on elections-related matters and that “this is still impacting negatively on the country’s development agenda.”
Mutua further said that Kenyans and leaders must demand for accountability of public funds, noting that the country continues to lose billions of shillings to graft.
“It is high time that people took demands for accountability a notch higher to redeem the image of our public service,” said Mutua.
