MCAs Interrupt Assembly Proceedings to Protest Use of 'Difficult' English By their Colleague

Members of Uasin Gishu County Assembly (MCAs) were on Thursday forced to interrupt proceedings to protest use of ‘difficult’ English by one of their colleagues.

The MCAs complained that, Jenny Too, a Jubilee nominated MCA, was “too fluent” while making her contributions during debates, which left many of them hanging.

Kipkenyo MCA Hillary Rono asked the assembly’s speaker to prevail upon Ms Too to slow down so that her colleagues could grasp her contributions.

“Her English is flowing very fast, Mr Speaker Sir. We are requesting that she slows down so that some of us can comprehend what she is saying,” he said on Thursday amid support from fellow MCAs.

“Your choice of words has left many of us ‘floating’. The speech is very complex. Kindly tone down to so that you may have us on board,” Rono told Ms Too.

“We would like to understand what she is saying, Mr Speaker Sir.”

Speaker David Kiplagat intervened and called on Too to “speak slowly.”

“I don’t know, Honourable Jenny, if it’s possible that you slow down or something like that so that your colleagues can hear you clearly.”

“Mr Speaker, I apologise to members. My English can sometimes be very fast but I understand and will comply with the request,” Ms Too apologized to her colleagues.

  1. How can English be very fast…
How can English be very fast? Maybe she needs training in public speaking and presentations. I could understand if she was loading her speech with multiple vocabularies in one sentence that a regular Joe cannot comprehend; but speaking fast? aa!

Wooooi, they should have asked the speaker to allow them speak in kale. Kiswahili pia iko na misamiati hawataelewa

@Kenya, thanks for the clip, helped put it into perspective. Looks like it’s just the young versus old. She is articulate, lakini the flow is the new seen with the young. Why not revert to Kiswahili, after all, that is lugha ya taifa is it not?..Mhh..she will probably turn the tables on her colleagues by complaining she does not understand. Kenya is fast becoming something else. Tumechanganyikiwa kila direction!

@Kenya. Ndugu, nakuunga mkono.

  5. How do the MCAs understand…
How do the MCAs understand the english of black Americans when Kenyans finance their many useless trips to America? The lady was very clear.Maybe the other MCAs are uncomfortable with her for having spent millions of shillings to win their seat but she was just nominated to represent herself after sleeping with various JUBILEE gods.

@nyako did you also sleep with her? If you have nothing to say, don’t say it here.

  7. @Nyako, have you got…
@Nyako, have you got receipts to back up your allegations re: sleeping around with Jubilee men, or is it because she is a woman in a powerful position that you accuse her so? At least you acknowledged she is clear. How come they don’t complain when Miguna uses his English or Lumumba whose vocabulary sometimes needs a good dictionary to interpret? Just men who cannot swallow the hard truth that women are no longer passive but equal participants in current affairs, and I mean that in every sense of the word! Fafanua mwenyewe.

Weee @njai kaa hivo hivo kama huna yako ya kutombwa.Endelea na kutetea wana JIBILEE @Sukari but it is an open secret and there is evidence. She is not alone. And can you both explain who she and other nominated thugs represent?

Uh,la la Nyako! We don’t need to go that low. Kama ni hivyo, I bow out and concede to Moi’s infamous encouragement and I quote: “ukipata shimo panda mti!”. Kana wana jubilee wamepanda miti, mazao basi ni mengi, ama vipi nyako kasichana (wink!)?
