Mike Sonko: Why Polycarp Igathe Resigned as Nairobi Deputy Governor

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko claims that his opponents misled Polycarp Igathe into resigning as Nairobi Deputy Governor.

Sonko further dismissed claims by Igathe that his exit was as a result of a strained relationship between them, stating that he left due to the pressure they encountered in the first 100 days in office.

Asked whether there has been any talks aimed at reuniting them, the Governor said no one has approached him for dialogue, noting that Igathe should have sought other ways of resolving the issues other than quitting.

Governor Sonko said the few individuals who misled Igathe have also tried to bully him, but he won’t give in to their scheme.

“My deputy was misled by two or three people, I am sure he is regretting…we still talk. And we know the people who misled him. I wont be bullied,I only take orders from the president and the deputy president.” Sonko said in an interview with Kameme Fm.

Igathe resigned two weeks ago, claiming that he failed to gain the trust of Governor Sonko.

“Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1pm on 31st Jan 2018. I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive Admin & Management of the county,” Igathe said on resigning.

@ Moses Kuria… Sonko is going nowhere. He will clean up the mess left by Kidero, Hopefully even recover monies looted by Kidero. We know Nairobi city has its Mafias who think they own it, Be they city hall Mafias, Kiambu mafias or Muranga mafias, but Sonko hold tight…You have seen it all.

  4. Gov., it is time to change…
Gov., it is time to change the playing field. Make news and be ahead of the curve instead of responding to news and be behind the curve. Anything is possible but you probably going to do just fine. And since you have a job to do for Nairobi it is a bad time for side shows; separate facts from forecasts and deliver. There is a lot of ground between being right( on politics) and doing right (for the county)-choose the later.

  5. Nairobi inawenyewe wanaoitwa…
Nairobi inawenyewe wanaoitwa Nairobians. Plz stop dragging the GEMA name here in bad faith although they own 75% of the houses you see in estates and the main town. Hehehe! They also own over 50% of the slams.. . Very innovative individuals. A majority of businesses in Nairobi are owned by the GEMA who also owned a considerable stake in Migori before they were forced out trough PEV. Look at Migori today! Ghost!
