National Super Alliance (Nasa) will not be holding the inauguration ceremony of Raila Odinga as people’s president at Uhuru Park grounds as earlier announced, an opposition MP has said.
The MP, who spoke to the Nation on condition of anonymity said the prior announcement that the fete would be staged at Uhuru Park was a plot to hoodwink the government then hold it at a different location.
This, he said, would ensure the state doesn’t not disrupt the event using police and other security apparatus.
“When we chose Uhuru Park, we knew the Jubilee leadership would thwart our mission by ensuring the venue is cordoned off by police. We have chosen a different location that will be known during or after the event,” the lawmaker, who did not want to be named, said.
Already, the Nairobi county government has granted permits to a church and the controversial Nairobi Business Community group to use Uhuru Park on January 30th, the date for Odinga’s swearing-in ceremony.
On Monday, Nasa co-principal Musalia Mudavadi said preparations for the ceremony are in top gear ahead of the D-day.
“Our communication in Mombasa on Sunday was clear. As long as there is no contrary message, the swearing in is on,” Mudavadi said.
