Jubilee Party will not be fronting any candidate for the Kitui West parliamentary by-election scheduled for March 26th.
In a statement on Friday evening, Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju said the party will, instead, back Wiper candidate Edith Nyenze, who is the widow of the late Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze.
Tuju said the decision was arrived at on Friday night following wide consultations within the the ruling party.
“It is appropriate and compassionate that the widow is granted a chance by the people of Kitui West to implement the development agenda championed by her late husband,” the statement read.
Edith clinched the Wiper ticket after garnering 13,388 votes against her only challenger Maluki Kitili, who got 2,663 votes in the nomination exercise held on Tuesday.
The seat fell vacant after the death of Nyenze on December 6th 2017, barely three months after he took Oath of Office for a fresh term following the August 8th General Election.
He succumbed to colon cancer.
