Seven People Die in Grisly Road Accident along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway

A grisly Saturday morning road crash at Sultan Hamud area along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway left seven people dead, while one sustained serious injuries.

The eight were heading to a funeral in Makueni when the hearse they were travelling was involved in a head-on collision with a Nairobi-bound truck.

Confirming the incident, Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim said the driver of the hearse was trying overtake another vehicle when he collided with the truck.

The critically injured man was rushed to the Machakos Level Five hospital. The driver of the truck escaped with no injuries.

In a separate road accident on Saturday, one person died and four others were critically injured after a Toyota Hilux collided with a lorry in Makindu area near Kibwezi, Makueni County on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. Makueni AP Commander Joseph Neipeyan said the vehicle was trying to overtake before colliding with the trailer.

More than 150 people have died in road accidents since the beginning of this month. On Tuesday, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) released a new list of tough measures in a bid to tame road carnage.

  1. All of these accidents have…
All of these accidents have one thing in common. – overtaking. What is it with this overtaking that is killing so many people? I think it is carelessness and greed to make extra money by the drivers based on the arrangements they have with their vehicle owners. The owners want a certain amount per day and anything extra is for the drivers. That’s were over speeding and overloading comes in and thus thousands of death every year. Meanwhile, the MCAs, Mpigs and all legislators are looking to get more money from the taxpayers.

  3. @Imara. This was an accident…
@Imara. This was an accident. Waheshimiwas had nothing to do with it! Sometimes we have to take personal responsibility bwana. The majority of Kenyan drivers acquired their licenses through the back door. They have little insight on rules of the road, i.e before you maneuver, one has to check certain things, i,e. mirrors, access, etc…Human error ndugu. Uhuru, Ruto and even Odinga had nothing to do with this one, I am afraid.

Moving on, I see you are hell bent on communicating in Swahili only, so may I germinate an idea for you? You could start your own website akin to Mwakilishi, only difference is that your forum will be wholly in Swahili, news, reports and wanaforum. Can’t be that difficult as most of Mwakilishi’s news are merely cut and paste material acquired elsewhere, hence no research involved (at least not as we know it). You could generate monies from small ads which you could then re-direct to educate Kenyans on your vision to boot out any wakoloni based communication/education. I suspect this will be an uphill struggle as Swahili was borne out of slavery as is the literacy in writing it. If you find this to be the case, you may be forced to go back years by communicating through messages sent by various methods. If you are serious about boycotting all things western, you need to really look around starting with yourself, I have a few suggestions:
    1. Vua nguo za waingereza. Go commando or research what our forefathers wore.
    2. Safiri na miguu (of course! could hardly safiri na mikono). Wazungu ndio walileta magari.
    3. Nenda ukawinde instead of buying and trading. Capitalism is a western concept

The list could go on and on, but my drift is that you are flogging a dead horse as suggested elsewhere in this forum. There are many ways of remaining authentic and relevant in today’s world than being a total revolt. True boycott is refusing to even read stuff written in English which you are. Do forgive me, I am not being shady nor insulting to you but giving my two cent worth of advise. Hao wa Congo giving you advise….sijawaona in any international initiatives. They have remained stagnant except in the entertainment business. The question is, where do you, Imara feature in this and what of legacy will you leave for your kids & grandkids. Bitterness yields hatred. Let go of the past and make that your new year’s resolution!
