Police Place ODM MP Junet Mohamed Under Arrest List

Police have placed Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed in their arrest list for ignoring court summonses.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation asked the court to grant him more time to find the MP and apprehend him over a case in which he was charged in July. Appearing in court, Homa Bay Director of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Joseph Tuksho through officer Patrick Kibowen sought for additional time to arrest the MP from senior Principal Magistrate Susan Ndegwa, arguing that he was not aware the court had earlier issued a warrant of arrest against Junet.

“Mr Tuksho has not been aware that the court issued warrant of arrest to Suna East MP Junet Mohammed,” said Mr Kibowen.

“We ask for more time to enable us arrest Mr Junet,” said Mr Kibowen.

The parliamentarian was charged at a Homa Bay Court in July with ethnic contempt for remarks he uttered during an ODM youth meeting in Homa Bay town. The court was told that Junet’s sentiments were in contravention with the National Cohesion and Integrity Act.

At the meeting attended by among others Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, Junet reportedly asked governor Joho to prepare a venue in Mombasa where the opposition would stage the swearing in of Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga as President of certain parts of the country except Central region.

He was freed on bail but ordered to appear before the court on October 24th, but he declined to present himself. The case will be mentioned on January 11th, 2018.
