Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has now pledged to work with President Kenyatta for the benefit of her constituents.
Ngilu becomes the third National Super Alliance (NASA) affiliated Governor to express willingness to work with the Jubilee administration, despite the opposition alliance vowing not to recognise Kenyatta as President.
Other opposition allied Governors who have pledged to work with Uhuru include Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok and his Taita Taveta counterpart Granton Samboja.
Last month, the Raila Odinga-led outfit said it will not recognise Kenyatta as president, saying that he lacks legitimacy and mandate from Kenyans.
Speaking when she toured Ndengu farms in Kitui Rural and Kitui Central constituencies, Governor Ngilu said she will work with the national government since its agenda on food security and provision of water are aligned to her vision.
“President Kenyatta has been championing for water provision and food security as key in Jubilee government’s development agenda for the nation. Water and food are my priorities too.”
“For that reason, I am going to reach out to him so that we can discuss how we can work together towards realizing adequate water supply and sufficient food not only for Kitui but also the rest of Kenya,” she announced.
Ngilu served as Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Lands under President Kenyatta in his first term in office, but was dismissed in 2015 following allegations of graft in her docket.
