20 Heads of State are expected to attend President Uhuru Kenyatta’s swearing-in ceremony set for Tuesday, the government has confirmed.
Speaking during a press briefing at Kenyatta International Conference Centre, government spokesperson Erick Kiraithe noted that high profile guests are expected at the fete, where President Uhuru will take Oath of Office for his second term.
“Preparations are still ongoing for next week’s Swearing-in of President Kenyatta. We have invited high profile guests and 20 heads of states have already confirmed attendance,” he said.
President Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto will take Oath of Office at Kasarani stadium. On Thursday, government through Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i declared Tuesday as a public holiday to allow Kenyans to attend the ceremony.
The head of Security and Protocol of the Assumption of the Office of President Committee Joseph Irungu said adequate security measures have been put in place to secure hotels where guests will be hosted as well as the airports.
“We have planned well from the airport where international guests will arrive from Monday. There is another team in hotels and apartments where the guests will be staying and another one that will be moving the VIPs from one place to the other,” Irungu said on Thursday.
Former United States President Barack Obama and United Nations boss Antonio Guteress are among world leaders invited to the ceremony.
