Nyeri Deputy Governor Mutahi Kahiga will be sworn-in as the new Nyeri Governor on Monday. Speaking to the media on Friday, Mutahi said his wish was to take Oath of Office after the burial of late Governor Dr Wahome Gakuru. However, after lengthy consultations with his legal team, he said it was wise adhere to the constitution.
“After a lot of consultation and pressure I have decided to take oath of office because there are issues that legally need to be dealt with so that nothing we do will be considered illegal,” Mutahi said.
“I need to correct this image that has been created that we were under pressure not to be sworn in. I had made a personal decision to give my brother a decent send-off then we can do the rest later,” he said.
He called on Nyeri residents to remain calm, adding that he is ready to work with the team of CECs that had been appointed by the late Governor in order to accomplish the vision he had for Nyeri County.
Former Governor Gakuru died at Thika Level 5 hospital following a road crash that happened at Kabati area along Thika-Murang’a highway on Tuesday morning. He was headed to Nairobi from Nyeri for a series of morning Television debates. He will laid to rest on November 18th.
