Police have been forced to fire teargas to a group of rowdy youth in Kawangware area, Nairobi, after they attacked an entourage of Education acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
The rowdy group temporarily blocked the CS from from exiting Gatina Primary school where he had gone to supervise the ongoing rehearsals for KCPE candidates, who will sit for their exams beginning Tuesday.
Immediately Matiang’i finished his speech to the students, youth who camped at the institution’s gate began chanting “Matiang’i must go”
They then pelted stones at Matiangi’s convoy and blocking roads in the area, vandalizing several vehicles.
Matiang’i was accompanied by Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, who assured the candidates of security during the examination.
The incident comes only days after violence broke out in the area after October 26th election leaving at least three people dead and property worth millions set ablaze.
Earlier on, the CS together with Inspector General visited several other schools to monitor the situation ahead of the exams.
