Raila to CNN: We'll Employ Legal Means to Confront Jubilee Government [VIDEO]

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga says that his National Resistance Movement will not employ violence, but will instead use legal and constitutional means to confront Jubilee administration if President Uhuru will be sworn in after Thursday’s repeat election.

Speaking during an interview with CNN, the former Prime Minister described Thursday’s fresh presidential election a ‘sham’ and that Nasa will push for another election in 90 days.

“If the government imposes itself on the people the people have a right to self determination the people also have a right to disobey orders coming from such a government therefore we will not go for violent confrontations with the government we will go for peaceful resistance,” Raila said.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader said that the coalition will announce to its supporters on how they will confront the government on Monday.

He termed the low voter turnout witnessed during the fresh poll as a “vote of no confidence” on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

“Only 3.5 million people participated in the election, which is twenty percent of the total registered voters, that shows basically that people don’t have confidence. It is a vote of no confidence in the government of president Kenyatta and if I were him and I know that he is a democrat I would actually resign or step aside,” added Raila.

He said Nasa would be split into two factions, parliamentary wing that will consist of MPs and senators and a resistance wing. “We have our alliance, it remains a super alliance it has got branches, parliamentary wing involving members of parliament and senators, we are creating another wing; resistances movement to deal with civil disobedience and resistance, they will be unarmed, we will use legal and constitutional means to put pressure on the government,”.

He reiterated that he was ready to dialogue with President Uhuru, but not on forming a coalition government.

I like the interviewer for asking pointed question that brought out things like nasa is not nrm but nrm is a wing of nasa, in-charge of “civil disobedience and resistance”. Eager to know exactly what the “civil disobedience” bit entails in nasa leadership terms and also the interpretation of “civil disobedience” by their supporters. Because in press, in public meetings and media interviews ” civil disobedience ” means something totally different from what your supporters will implement in the streets, behind the scenes and night meetings. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and more so the fourth estate for the sake of Kenya can you question further what these terms mean to all, not only the speaker.

Indeed, I liked the way she pressed for answers even when RAO tried to avoid them. She asked more questions about NRM than any interviewer has, her at home. I wish our journalists/interviewers were as competent.

Let’s wait and see what the final tally says about the voter turn out. If indeed only 20% of registered wananchi voted, then Uhuruto have a really divided country.
Could it be that RAO’s voting in 90 days is to compare the turn outs and who ever has more turn outs has the will of the peoples? Folks, he may have apoint… but will they turn out to be more than 20%?That is every thing being equal…I wonder.
