Elections in Four Nyanza Counties Pushed to October 28th

The Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the postponement of repeat election in four Nyanza counties.

IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati said that the election in Homa Bay, Kisumu, Migori and Siaya counties will be held on October 28th due to security reasons.

“The Commission has written to Inspector General Joseph Boinnet and we are waiting for a response from him; we were promised security by the IG and the government agencies and once we get response from them we shall be able to see how we can manage the movement of materials and security of our officers in the respective counties,” Chebukati said.

Some of the election officials in the four counties failed to report to duty for fear of being lynched by opposition supporters

In some areas in Nyanza, NASA supporters locked doors to classrooms and social halls that served as polling stations.

In Kisumu, one person succumbed to gunshot wounds while five others sustained gunshot injuries as police repulsed National Super Alliance (NASA) supporters protesting against the disputed repeat presidential election.

I’m not sure this is necessary. They do not want to vote so why bother ?

  2. So, Chebukati for how long…
So, Chebukati for how long will you cater to Raila? Do you know how many women would rather be seeing Chiloby announce the votes as they come in? What is all this sabotage going on?
