Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Keriako Tobiko has directed for immediate arrest and charging of Kisumu Senator Fred Outa and former Kisumu deputy governor Ruth Odinga.
Tobiko ordered the two leaders taken in for allegedly forcefully disrupting an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) training seminar in the county last week.
In a letter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Ndegwa Muhoro, Tobiko ordered the duo be urgently arraigned at the Kericho Law Courts to face four charges.
The DPP accuses Outa, Odinga and together of storming a training center designated by the electoral commission without authority, blocking an IEBC official from executing his lawful mandate, incitement to violence and malicious damage of property, which contravenes several sections in the Election Offences Act and section 339 (1) of the penal code. “Upon perusal of the file and analysis of the evidence on record, DPP finds the evidence sufficient to warrant prosecution of the two suspects and their accomplices,” read the letter dated October 23rd.
The two reportedly led a group of youth to disrupt an IEBC training for poll officials who will oversee Thursday’s repeat election.
On Saturday, Kondele Member of County Assembly Joachim Omieno was arrested in connection with the same incident and is being held at Kericho Police Station.
Retain Outa and Odinga in…
Retain Outa and Odinga in the cells and later jail them. Make sure you give them ugali bila sukuma. Kenya has laws and the laws must be followed. Why would someone mobilize goons to disrupt a constitutionally guaranteed process?
