Australian Prime Minister Mourns Teacher Gabrielle Maina, Who Was Killed in Nairobi

Australian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has condoled with the family of an Australian teacher who was killed in Nairobi while dropping her son at a friend’s house in Karen.

Gabrielle Maina, who hails from New South Wales in Australia was shot dead on Thursday morning in a botched robbery by assailants who used motorbikes to escape.

“It’s a tragic event and our prayers and love and condolences go out to her family and loved ones,” Malcolm Turnbull told 3AW radio on Friday.

“She appears to have been killed by a fatal gunshot wound during a robbery.”

Maina came to Kenya in September 2015 and has been working at the head teacher of Hillcrest Preparatory School in Nairobi.

The school expressed its condolences in a statement to Maina’s family.

“It is with great sadness and shock that we are writing to let you know that Gabrielle Maina, head teacher of Hillcrest Prep has been tragically killed whilst out walking this morning,” the statement said.

“She was returning home after dropping her son at a friend’s house.”

A report from the school’s website said Maina relocated to Kenya to establish her family in the country “so her children can grow up with their extended family”.

The department of foreign affairs in Australia said it is providing consular help to the family of Maina.

She was shot twice on the neck and head before the robbers grabbed her phone and eloped.

  1. This is uncalled for totally…
    This is uncalled for totally. When will Kenya ever have a special unit that deals with murderers. What is all this learning we are doing without helping out our communities. Forensic experts and detectives are needed in Kenya. Sijui we get them from Tanzania kwasababu sisi wakenya have become very corrupt.Capital city of thieves, thuggish behaviour, political stalemate, no one wants to loose. Drugs. Takataka. Hata watu akienda ngambo don’t change, same ol same ol tendencies.

    @Ougi,
    When Uhuru admits openly that he is unable to curb corruption,and he is the head of state, what do you then expect?

    Waiguru stole billions of shillings. What was the consequences? She was cleared by the IEBC to run for an elective position and now she is the governor of Kirinyaga County.

    Governors Sonko and Joho are living shady lives and yet were cleared by the same IEBC! Our immediate solution is to get rid of all the members of the IEBC. By so doing, we can elect moral, clean, and responsible leaders who can guide our nation to endless safety and prosperity.

      @Imara, you really know how to coin words to push your agenda more like how its done in US of A by politicians. If you are not working for one of them over there show them your postings at Mwakilishi,they will be scrabbling for you. Stop your one sided view though you claim to be seeing both sides.That does not help the country.
