Opposition leader Raila Odinga now says that he is ready for talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, however, pointed out that the talks should be premised on how to hold a free and fair election and not how to share power.
In a statement, Raila said that Nasa was ready for dialogue “as soon as yesterday” if the dialogue will be held in line with Supreme Court order to hold the poll in strict adherence to constitution and the law.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader dismissed claims that he is pushing for a coalition government and termed the claims preposterous.
“The impression that has been created is that it is me who wants
nusu mkate,” he said.
“I have never called Mr Kenyatta to demand a coalition government. Such claims are, therefore, preposterous,”.
“If it is a free, fair and credible election, I am ready at any time. Nasa wants to form the government. We want a full loaf because we earned it. We won the August 8 election,” he said at Wilson Airport in Nairobi.
However, the ruling Jubilee coalition has ruled out possibilities of holding talks with their Nasa counterparts before the October 26th election is held.
“We are ready to engage with our competitors – post elections,” Deputy President William Ruto said during a meeting with foreign correspondents in his official residence in Karen, Nairobi, on Tuesday.

The constitution does not…
The constitution does not envisage the ‘dialogue’ of two people, especially where one is without any constitutional office. It has institutions for structured dialogue. The quickest way to become a banana republic is to allow ad hoc talks between competing centers where one forces a crisis and then negotiates out of it! We are in this mess because of the political commissioners who came out of the last so called ‘talks’. Uhuru should let the law talk this time. If it is mute. So be it!
