Presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot says that the October 26th repeat election must go on as scheduled whether National Super Alliance (NASA) candidate Raila Odinga participates or not.
The opposition leader leader dramatically bowed out of the race on Wednesday and wants a fresh poll conducted in 90 days.
“The fresh election cannot be predicated on the decision of one candidate. If one candidate choses to withdraw, Kenya cannot come to a standstill,” Aukot said in a media briefing in Nairobi Saturday.
“Politicians in this country have a false sense of self-entitlement that the country cannot continue if they are not there.”
He, however, said that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission should also be blamed.
“When a candidate writes to say they have withdrawn, why are you forcing him on the ballot? When the High Court says include the name of Aukot in the ballot, why do you go on a fishing expedition for everybody else?” Asked Ekuru.
He said that he has dropped his demands on IEBC following a meeting with them, although he has no 100 percent confidence with the electoral body.
“After our meeting with the IEBC yesterday, we are somewhat convinced that the IEBC had addressed some of the issues pointed out by the Supreme Court as the illegalities and irregularities in the August 8 elections,” said Aukot.
The Thirdway Alliance Presidential contender described himself as the “only alternative change Kenya needs now”. “Kenya has no shortage of leaders,” he said.
Akot you should take over…
Akot you should take over opposition lead. Many of us would be there if we had a mature person in that position. Raila has juvenile tantrums that no one would trust. As PM he chose to appoint all his relatives and uncles with no experience in ambassadors positions.. he is very tribal violent and should just retire
You will NEVER get there if…
Omondi. You will NEVER get there if You’re Waiting for AUKOT to go before you (mbere yaku) and Do Everything for You. And where was AUKOT when Raila was being Detained for 9 yrs, Agitating for MultuPartism, Fighting for the New Constitution, Raila saying “Kibaki Tosha” and even Raila (recently) Advocating for him (AUKOT) to be on Repeat Ballot?
Omondi very well said. We…
Omondi very well said. We need a mature opposition leader, one who is self less to run against Uhuru or Ruto for that matter. So far this guy is doing a good job. We have to start making these politicians work harder to get our votes which should be based solely on their accompliment and sensible attainable agendas. This tribal division is going to kill all of us soon and we have to stop it on its tracks.Period
Omondi, well said. He had…
Omondi, well said. He had one from the UK now being transported everywhere with security. Jobless in UK prior to that.
Why is this even news…
Why is this even news whether Raila is on the ballot or not you are not going to be president maybe of a cattle dip in Turkana.
@Anonymous, sometimes you…
@Anonymous, sometimes you make sense. Other times you make a complete ass out of yourself, it is astonishing to watch. Not sure which is which anonymous but I’d assume it’s someone with Multiple Personalities Disorder.
Now that lives to the name…
Now that lives to the name Third Way Alliance. If only there was an alternative voice in our opposition; elections would feel like democracy at work rather than nightmares from dictates of one man’s dreams. If you keep level headed Dr. you may soon (as next election cycle) be a force to reckon with politically. Opposition should be about alternatives not threats and intimidation-it should be the “refuge” of all not a preserve of the “ordained or entitled chosen” few.
If he has balls all he needs…
If he has balls all he needs to do is sign the form 24A but he won’t coz his balls were crushed by mr big papa arap n Uhuru will finish the remaining on 26th
