Members of Parliament allied to the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) have vowed to boycott all parliamentary business over the proposed amendments on electoral laws currently being debated on the floor of Parliament.
The opposition has already directed its MPs to stay away of House business and committee proceedings until after the October 26th repeat election, which their candidate Raila Odinga has withdrawn from.
On Tuesday, Nasa MPs skipped a parliamentary session as their Jubilee counterparts pushed for the passage of the controversial amendments.
In a statement issued at the Parliament, Nasa MPs said they have resolved to keep off the debate, saying that it is illegal and unconstitutional. “We have held a joint parliamentary committee and we have, therefore, resolved that our members have been de-whipped from the National Assembly and the Senate for this afternoon sitting and any other sittings discussing the two Bills which we hold are unconstitutional and illegal,” John Mbadi, Minority Leader in the National Assembly said at a media briefing at Parliament Buildings on Tuesday.
Machakos Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior described the amendments by Jubilee affiliated MPs as an attempt to cancel the Supreme Court ruling that overturned the August 8th presidential election, saying that Nasa will not be part of it.
Jubilee MPs, however, said they would continue and pass the bills in absence of the opposition side.
Speaking while on a campaign trail in Taita Taveta County on Wednesday, President Uhuru vowed that he will not hesitate to sign the Bills into law, since they address most issues raised by the Supreme Court while annulling August 8th elections. “I have no problem with that law and if Parliament passes (the bills), I will sign, I don’t have any problem with it because it contains contentious issues raised by the opposition,” he said.

Naswa NP’s can’t have their cake and eat it. By being sworn in you accepted that the national assembly as constituted was legal and binding. You cannot now claim that since you don’t like the bill(s) passed by majority elected members, that the bills are illegal. Not participating is the same voting nay. The motion carries and once and for all we shall sort out the rubbish planted in our society by one power hungry individual supported by his sycophant civil society, wakora judiciary and a few bad apples in the national assembly.
