University of Nairobi has been closed indefinitely following recent riots that has rocked the Kenya’s oldest institution of high learning.
“UON senate has today closed the University with immediate effect due to the deteriorating security situation. Students have been asked to vacate the halls of residence with immediate effect but not later than 9.00am,” read a tweet from the institution.
This follows Monday night riots and chaos by the University students as they demanded the removal of their Vice Chancellor Profesor Peter Mbithi, after the institution’s management admitted to inviting anti-riot police officers into the campus to quell last Thursday’s protests against the arrest of Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili, well known as Babu Owino.
The Students were demanding for the release of Babu, who is a former Chairman of Students Organization of Nairobi University (SONU) following his arrest over a slur aimed at President Uhuru.
Things turned ugly when police officers entered the university premises and reportedly brutalized students by beating them and frog matching them. Some students were allegedly raped and injured during the incident.
On Monday night, the students broke into the security offices at the University, burning documents and destroying property.
They proceeded to block sections of Mamlaka Road and State House Road before anti riot police officers dispersed them, firing gunshots into the air.
More demos were Tuesday morning reported along Lower Kabete Road, with the students blocking roads near the University, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.
They need to close this half…
They need to close this half-baked institution permanently. University of River Road, Nairobi, produces far better graduates than Nairobi University. Kenya is ranked number three in the corruption list by Transparency International, anti corruption organization that monitors corruption Worldwide, thanks to the corrupt leaders that are graduates of Nairobi University. The Slogan for Nairobi University should be: “Join University of Nairobi and learn Corruption Skills. For over Fifty Years we have produced the most corrupt leaders in the World”. or ” Want to get rich fast? Join Nairobi University….We teach you how to steal from Public”. Graduates from Nairobi University are all half-baked such that engeering graduates are unable to undertake a simple road project. Nairobi University Campus should be turned into a homeless shelter for Chokoras.
Nairobi University is a good…
Nairobi University is a good source for dating girls. Look at how they are dressed!!!. They are so easy to get. You only need to have few shillings to fulfill your fantasy nights. This girls(and boys for those who prefer that route) are up to the game. I bet you to give it a short, you won’t be disappointed.
I wish these young people…
I wish these young people realize how hot the sun is out here and that upon graduation no one is going to give them an inch in life (even the so called dropouts will give you a run for your brains). This age of ignorance, if not shed off follows you into adult life and beyond. Image is everything in the “big” jobs you all aspire for. And that world (of big jobs) is seeking people who (beyond excellent education) are well adjusted, can navigate pressures and ambiguity of life. Good luck when studies resume.
