National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader Raila Odinga claims that the government attempted to block his co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula from traveling to Uganda.
Speaking on Thursday, the former Prime Minister alleged that the two had been detained at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport while on their way to Kampala, where Musyoka was to preside over a graduation ceremony at Uganda Technology and Management University, where he is the chancellor.
While the two were later allowed to travel, Raila said the attempts manifests a rapid deterioration of the political situation in the country and the emergence of an all-out effort to create an atmosphere of fear.
In a press statement, Raila said that authorities at the airport told Kalonzo and Wetang’ula that henceforth all opposition leaders will need clearance from State House before leaving the country.
“The attempts to prohibit opposition leaders from leaving the county and to control their movement through State House clearances are illegitimate manoeuvres by an increasingly paranoid regime,” said the ODM leader.
“Nasa condemns this latest infringement on the freedoms and liberties and the harassment of its top leadership.”
“The Kenyan Opposition must remain free as a legitimate part and parcel of the Kenyan political landscape and be allowed and enabled to pursue its mandate as an alternative government and voice of the people in line with the Constitution,” said Odinga.

Sleepless Red Eyed Cowards…
Sleepless Red Eyed Cowards are on the Prowl; but afraid of their Prey. And their Cowardice is the Reason why they’re Detaining the Prey (the Opposition). Mwishowe Maoga watashindwa, na kuenda KULEWA kiholela.

Guest1: Wewe mshichana wa Nyeri wacha mambo mingi. Unajua, hawa watu wakora; wanataka kuhangaisha nchi na wananchi wa Jamuhuri. That is why we must keep an eye on them. Maybe Kalonzo and Weta should buy homes in Uganda and stay there. Lakini, uganda does not accomodate nyoko nyoko.
They keep making up stories…
They keep making up stories. Who cares about Kalonzo and Weta, two people without charisma, noone notices them. Perhaps they were hiding their passports so they can be arrested. Luckily security located them as they were trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.
Top politicians should not…
Top politicians should not be allowed to leave the country until the new government is elected and sworn in. They cause chaos fly out and leave wanjikus suffering because of the mess they have created.
The illegal jubilee…

I was also detained at Reagan DCA airport. I was heading to Boston for a meeting, they stopped, asked me for my ID, had to take out my shoes, laptop out of bag, full body scanner, luggage X-Ray, had to discard a water bottle. I was detained.
In case you have forgotten, Kiai refused to present his ID at JKIA; wonder whether he understand that if he refuse to produce ID at Heathrow or Kennedy, he would not travel. He was lucky he was well connected in Kenya.
Hope these people understand that this is for safety of all passengers (including themselves), and not for the convenience of a few.
