Withhold Raila's Passport ahead of Repeat Elections, MP Tells Government

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has urged the government to withhold National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s travel documents ahead of the repeat presidential election.

The MP alleged that the former Prime Minister was likely to plunge the country into chaos then flee abroad.

Barasa said he would be tabling a Bill in the National Assembly to ensure that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader surrendered his passport before the polls.

“I will go to Parliament to ensure that Raila surrenders his passport as he will cause chaos and flee. We want him here,” said Mr Barasa.

“The Opposition is likely to cause trouble should their demands to have the election postponed fail,” he added.

“The Opposition is scared and has resorted to inciting their supporters to take to the streets and cause mayhem.”

Barasa said the Bill he is planning to sponsor would ensure that NASA leaders would remain in the country to witness first hand the state of the country should they call for mass action.

The MP alleged the Opposition leaders are attempting use violence to capture power.

“They have been engaging in violence to intimidate their rivals and that should not be the case in the new dispensation,” he said.

“We should have a peaceful election. There is no need for people to cause violence in order to attain political office. This is why I want Raila’s passport detained,” he said.

He bashed the opposition claiming that it was ironical it wanted reforms at IEBC yet they were unable to conduct free and fair party nominations ahead of the August 8th general election.

  2. RAO will cause chaos in…
RAO will cause chaos in Kenya soon. We have a government and cannot allow a few people to distabilize the entire nation. These are enemies of Kenya and should be treated that way. No nation in the world should allow one man to ruin it for the sake of power. Power is the people and if people say NO, they should not be imposed on.

  3. FORWARD:…
    FORWARD:

Let us look and move forward as a nation and not repeat the mistakes of the past. There isn’t a section in our new constitution that requires the passport of a presidential candidate or for that matter anyone aspiring for an elective public service to have their passport held by the government in power.

@Guest1: Presidency is not a cake that you cut and share in the room. Presidency is won through a one man one vote process. If RAO can convince enough Kenyans and attains more votes, then he can be president. Literally, it is wrong to day Raila Tosha. Evil shall bestow evil.

Mr. barasa you are out of order and ignorant. Per the constitution of Kenya you can not take any one persons rights and freedoms based on percieved future offenses– crimes that have not been committed yet.RAO and his NASA will crush your jubilee and the CJ has told you again that if you and your IEBC commit the same theft again you will face the same WEMBE…. it would be prudent to keep your nose clean going forward.
