President Uhuru Kenyatta has prevailed upon Nyeri town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu to withdraw the contentious petition he filed seeking removal of Chief Justice David Maraga.
Speaking at the Sagana State Lodge on Friday where he met leaders from Central Kenya, the Head of State told the legislator to leave the Judiciary alone.
“We have agreed to go back to the voters and go to the ballot,” said the head of state.
“I understand your pain and action. But we have an election to win on October 17. That has to be our focus. Leave the court alone,” the President said.
“All what we want is for the will of the people to prevail.”
Uhuru, however, called on the Judiciary to facilitate smooth planning of the October 17th repeat presidential election.
“Don’t think that just because we are silent you will force things down our throat,” he retorted.
On Thursday, Ngunjiri sparked heated debate from both Jubilee and Nasa when he filed a petition seeking ouster of Justice Maraga for “gross misconduct and abuse of office”.
Maraga presided over a bench of Supreme Court judged who nullified President Kenyatta’s victory after the August 8th General Election.
