President Uhuru Kenyatta says that they frustrated National Super Alliance leader Raila Odinga’s scheme to plunge the country into violence by accepting the Supreme Court verdict to annul his victory.
Speaking on Saturday at Uhuru Park in Nairobi, the head of state claimed that the opposition had schemed a misfortune for the country by misleading the Supreme Court to nullify his victory by creating anarchy and throwing the country into an ungovernable state.
The President said the opposition planned these misfortune by expecting that the Jubilee government would reject the directions by the court.
“Raila was shocked that we accepted the verdict of the court. He thought we are like him and would reject the decision,” the President said when he addressed a rally at Uhuru Park, Nairobi.
Uhuru maintained that the Supreme Court’s decision to invalidate his victory on questionable grounds was very painful, but his anger had subsided.
He painted the former Prime Minister as a man who banks on violence to achieve political mirage and cited the 2007 general election that plunged the country to ethnic war.
“In 2007, he lost the election and he refused to accept defeat and caused bloodshed,”.
“When he got what he wanted (Raila was appointed Prime Minister to end the post-election violence), he turned around and said Uhuru and Ruto were responsible for the violence,” the President said.
The President said their innocence and prayers by Kenyans ensured the International Criminal Court cleared him and his deputy from the false charges.
He reiterated his commitment to continue transforming Kenya and called on Kenyans to come out in large numbers in the forthcoming election and vote for Jubilee.
“Our objective is to see Kenya progress and nobody can make us deviate from that,” he said.
“Their is no need for Kenyans to fight one another; the vote is the real truth teller.”
