Tanzanian Opposition Leader Shot, Admitted at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi

Tanzania’s Opposition Member of Parliament who was shot by unknown gunmen on Thursday has been admitted at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.

Tundu Lissu is said to have underwent emergency surgery at the hospital after being shot in the abdomen and other parts of the body by unidentified assailants outside his residence in Dodoma, Tanzania.

The spokesman for the main Opposition Chadema party, Tumaini Makeke said that Lissu sustained multiple wounds after the shooting and was treated in a public hospital in the capital. “Lissu has suffered multiple gunshot wounds and is being treated at the main public hospital in Dodoma,” said Makene.

“We strongly condemn this attack and are closely monitoring his condition,” the party said in a separate statement.

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Isaac Okero saud that Lissu arrived in Nairobi from Dodoma on Thursday night for further treatment. “We understand he’s still in critical condition. “Members of the East African Law Society will be visiting him today (Friday) in the afternoon,” Okero said.
