Supreme Court Verdict Not End of Life, Raila tells Kenyans

National Super Alliance (Nasa) leader Raila Odinga has urged Kenyans to maintain peace during and after the highly anticipated Supreme Court ruling on Friday.

The opposition chief, in a speech delivered on his behalf by Kisumu governor Anyang Nyong’o on Thursday at the burial of late Foreign Affairs Minister Robert Ouko’s wife, Christabel told Kenyans that the ruling will not be the end of life.

Raila filed a petition challenging President Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory on grounds that the August 8th vote was marred by massive irregularities.

Demonstrations rocked Nasa strongholds in Nairobi, Homa Bay and Kisumu following the declaration of President Uhuru as the winner on August 11th. Unclear number of people lost their lives during the demos as police tussled with the the demonstrators to try and regain normalcy.

“Whatever happens today, we are winners. Go to church and temples to give thanks to God.

“A soldier lives to fight another battle. Therefore, today the world is not coming to an end.” The message read by Nyong’o read.

Justice David Maraga and six other Supreme Court judges are expected to deliver the verdict of Raila’s petition of Friday.

Raila further noted that peace is crucial for the country’s unity and development.

The former Prime Minister eulogised Christabel as a true patriot and mentor of many people in Kisumu and the country.

In his condolence message, President Uhuru Kenyatta said Christabel served the country with distinction and dedication.

“Her death is a big loss to her family and the whole country. She was a kind-hearted and caring public servant,” he said in the message read by Foreign Affairs CS Amina Mohammed.

That’s a very strange message. It sounds as if he knows he has lost the petition. Why say a soldier lives to fight another day? Does Raila know something that we don’t?

  2. Well, it appears the court…
Well, it appears the court battle made it clear to Raila that his case was frivolous. This is acceptance of defeat. As isolated as Raila is, it is good he is telling his folks that peace is needed. Going forward, the Raila needs to focus on building his legacy and nothing else.

Whoever has advised Raila to speak like this has done a good job. After the supreme court verdict in whichever way it will go, leaders or the two competitors should calm down their supporters, say no to violence, unite the country and move on.

Very suspicious. Guest1, I think you should write him a long letter of complaint…letting you down like this. Not the fighting spirit he put up in the beginning, is it?

So you knew exactly!!! Bure kabisa… As Kenyan majority expressed on the 8th of August 2017, we didn’t want you to be our President. Even if you take your case to the space, we are still the same Kenyan majority 8 million plus who voted you out. Bado wembe ni ule ule!!! Am glad you have realized that now. You can’t hold the whole country hostage. We learnt from 2007/08 and we can’t go back there. So, kwaheri ya kuonana Kenya inasonga mbele.
