Raila Files 25,000-Page Presidential Petition at the Supreme Court

The opposition National Super Alliance (Nasa) led by Raila Odinga and co-principals on Friday night filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging the declaration of President Uhuru Kenyatta as winner of the 2017 presidential contest by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

After keeping their supporters who camped outside the Supreme Court buildings waiting all day, Nasa lawyers arrived slightly an hour and a half to the midnight deadline to file the much-anticipated petition.

Earlier, NASA had announced the NASA principals would head to Uhuru Park and address supporters before proceeding to the Supreme Court buildings to file the suit.

NASA presidential candidate, Raila Odinga speaking moments after filing the petition said that they submitted a 25,000 pages of evidence gathered on election anomalies.

“We have left matters in the hands of Supreme Court and expect nothing but justice,” Odinga said.

“It was so badly conducted and marred with such glaring irregularities that it does not matter who won, or who was declared the winner thereof,” Mr Odinga says in court papers filed jointly with his running mate, Mr Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper.

Nasa said that 25 lawyers took part in preparing the much-anticipated petition with 90% of documents filed being evidence.

Nasa further said it had electronic evidence indicating how slain Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT manager Chris Msando’s stolen credentials were used to manipulate the election, a claim Nasa has consistently maintained.
