Several leaders drawn from the expansive Ukambani region on Monday congratulated President Uhuru Kenyatta on his re-election and pledged their support for the Jubilee administration.
Led by outgoing Kitui Senator David Musila, who lost in the race for Kitui governor to former Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu, the leaders said that time had come for the Kamba community to ditch the opposition and join the government.
Outgoing Members of Parliament Marcus Muluvi, Charles Nyamai, Joe Mutambo, John Munuve, Benson Itwiku Mbai and Bernard Kitungi were other Ukambani leaders present at the press briefing.
The leaders said they will engage Kamba community to forge the next step as far as national politics are concerned.
“We are not making a decision for the community, but we will be engaging them in a series of meetings soon to discuss the way forward. It will be bad for us to be in the opposition for the next five years,” said Senator Musila.
The leaders further urged Raila Odinga-led National Super Alliance (NASA) to seek legal redress to settle the election outcome row.
“We want peace in our country. NASA should seek legal redress. At the same time, we condemn any act of violence which can cause instability in the country. Police should refrain from using excessive force against civilians,” said Joe Mutambu.
