US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec Says Election Disputes Must Be Resolved Lawfully

US ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has called on all Kenyans, including candidates to give the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) time to complete its work.

Saying no election process anywhere in the world is ever 100 per cent perfect including in his own country (the United States), Godec called on those with disputes to have them address in line with the constitution and not make pronouncements that could trigger violence.

“If there are disputes or disagreements the Kenyan constitution is very clear on how to address them,” said Codec while speaking at the Bomas of Kenya on Friday morning.

He added that no Kenyan should die because of an election, saying Kenya is more important than an election. “Violence is never an option in resolving political disputes. No Kenyans should die because of elections,” said Godec.

Meanwhile security has intensified inside and outside Bomas of Kenya, and the president’s chair has been delivered at the venue, indicating that President Uhuru Kenyatta could be arriving at the venue soon and that the IEBC could be getting ready to announce the results of the presidential election. Various top government officials have also arrived at the venue.

No street justice. Justice is in the court room. Godec, you are 100% correct. No election is 100% perfect and Kenya will not be the first to be 100% accurate. That is the same reason polling companies give a margin of error of 5%.

If the courts have to be the final arbitrator, we must believe in their impartiality, otherwise no solution they render would be acceptable by one or both parties.
And yes we have had or how corrupt some of our judges are…well I trust there is also a mechanism to deal with that as well without resorting to violence.
If someone has abetter idea, let hear it.
