Former US-based Attorney Susan Kihika is on the cusp of making history as the first elected Woman senator in Kenya.
Susan has so far garnered a record 629283 votes (89.54%) in 1,695 out of 1,806 polling stations in Nakuru county.
Samwel Omondi Ogada of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is second with 54887 votes (7.81%) while Independent candidate Margaret Wanjiku Kiiru is third with 7803 votes (1.11%). Daniel Rono of Thirdway Alliance 6273 votes (0.89%) and Willy Mukoma Munyuthe 4541 votes (0.65%) close the race.
Kihika returned to Kenya from the Dallas, Texas in the USA to contest for Bahati MP seat but suffered defeat in the hands of Kimani Ngunjiri in race for TNA ticket in 2013. Kihika was consequently elected as the speaker of Nakuru County Assemby.
In the 2013 general election, no female candidate managed to win any elected senate seat, meaning that Kihika, alongside Margaret Kamar and Aden Fatuma, who are headed for wins in Uasin Gishu and Usiolo senatorial race respectively will be the first women in history to be elected to the senate.
