Kenya Defense Forces spokesman Joseph Owuoth has denied rumors spread by his family and several politicians that he is missing.
Col Owuoth said he had never gone missing but that he has been busy working. “II’m at work. What is happening? Nonsense…nonsense…I am doing fine. Tell them I’m at work, everything is fine… there is nothing wrong…I have not even been to Kisumu..there is nothing to worry about,” Owuoth said on Tuesday.
Owuoth’s family went public on Tuesday saying they could not trace him. His sister’ Elizabeth told the Nation that she last spoke to him on Monday morning and that efforts to reach him since then had been futile.
The family’s claims came a day after National Super Alliance (NASA) politicians, Pro Anyang Nyongo among them, claimed on Monday that Col Owuoth had been suspended from his job and sent to his rural home.
“He was sent on compulsory leave and ordered to go back to his rural Koru home…He was in constant communication with the sister until yesterday when he was in Nakuru. Now the family cannot reach him,” claimed Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o at a press briefing in Kisumu before Owuoth confirmed he is well and not missing.
The ODM leaders from Nyanza had demanded an explanation over Owuoth’s whereabouts.
NASA leaders have claimed severally in the last week that the Jubilee government has recruited the military to help the current government remain in power illegally if it loses the August 8th elections.
NASA politicians produced what they said were official military docuemtns detailing the alleged planned operation. The Defense Ministry, through Defense Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo has dismissed the documents as fake, saying they were not official military documents. Omamo said there has not been any plot by the military to help the current government say in power outside the confines of the law.
