If the election was held today, Anne Waiguru would trounce Martha Karua in the Kirinyaga gubernatorial contest by 20 percentage points, the latest poll by TIFA indicates.
The poll released on Thursday in Nairobi puts the Jubilee party candidate Anne Waiguru ahead of Nark Kenya’s Martha Karua with 55 per cent approval rating against Karua’s 35 per cent.
Waiguru’s popularity is pegged on the popularity of President Uhuru’s Jubilee Party enjoys in the county. The polls shows that the ruling party has a 95 per cent support while Karua’s Narc-Kenya has a paltry two per cent.
The survey further shows that incumbent governor Joseph Ndathi, who is defending his seat as an independent candidate, has three per cent support.
Additionally, the poll indicates that about seven percent of Kirinyaga voters are undecided on who they will vote for the gubernatorial seat.
Purity Wangui Kuria-Ngirici, the Jubilee candidate for Kirinyaga Women Representative seat enjoys 86 per cent support, while her closest rival Winnie Karimi has six per cent.
556 respondents were interviewed in the Kirinyaga survey and has a +/-4.4 per cent margin of error.
In Nairobi County, the survey shows that Jubilee gubernatorial candidate Mike Sonko has narrowed the popularity gap between and incumbent Evans Kidero of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), with less than three weeks to the August poll.
Sonko and Kidero are tying at 44 per cent popularity, a 1 per cent rise for Senator Sonko from the previous poll, where Kidero has 44 to Sonko’s 43 percent.
