National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has condemned the recent series of political violence witnessed in the country and appealed for peaceful campaigns.
NASA rallies’ disruption in Thika, Murang’a, and Baringo as well as the heckling of Deputy President William Ruto in Homa Bay and Kisumu have left many worried that if the trend continues, violence in the next month’s elections could be inevitable.
Speaking in an interview with Radio Citizen’s Jambo Kenya show on Friday, morning, the former Prime Minister termed what happened in Thika, Murang’a, Baringo, Homa Bay and Kisumu counties as ‘childish politics’, alleging that the youth who conducted the unfortunate acts were hired by politicians.
“If you have a problem with a politician, then don’t attend the rally and if you must, listen then later make your verdict instead of attacking. Regardless, I forgive them,” said Raila.
Raila urged his supporters to be disciplined during the electioneering times and not follow or display uncouth habits.
Raila further rubbished allegations that he was frustrating the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission efforts to deliver the August 8 polls, in order to form a caretaker government.
“We do not want a ‘nusu mkate’, we want a full-bread, it is too late to go for a ‘nusu mkate’ government, which has already been poisoned,” he said.
